Purchasing a Nissan automobile is a serious financial decision if you are in your 20’s and 30’s and have young children of your own. I understand that you are looking for a car that is reliable and Nissan certainly is that; but read on for why you should avoid this car unless you earn more than $75,000 a year.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • You need to be thinking of purchasing a reliable car to transport your family in safely
  • A determination not to mess your finances up
  • A frank discussion with other young Nissan owners
  • An open mind
Step1
It will cost you $500.00 to $600.00 just to replace the tires. I don’t know how fast you drive or what your road conditions are but 500 beans for used tires is a lot of money to shell out when you have young children.
Step2
Very few mechanics can work on a Nissan automobile. Every mechanic cannot work on these. The mechanic who does has to be “Nissan Certified.”
Step3
Repair work on the car will be expensive as well. You will have to take the car into the dealer this is not a situation where you can just go to an auto parts store and have some guy fix your car in the parking lot because they won’t know this brand. It’s going to be hard to find a “street mechanic” that knows these cars unless they are “Nissan Certified” at their job they won’t know the layout, how to get around the car’s onboard computer and so on and so forth.
Step4
If you are in your 20’s and 30’s with young children and you have rent, student loans, electricity, telephone, cable, and no emergency fund set up to get the car repaired it can be hard.
Step5
Use the internet to find Nissan forums and ask them questions about your car and where to find a good Nissan mechanic if you already have this car. It not, think about your finances before you purchase this car because if you haven’t arrived yet financially repair bills like this can really throw a monkey wrench into your plans.

Tips & Warnings

  • A good way to find a car is to read Consumer Reports as they test cars as well. Go to Click and Clack’s website as they talk about cars in a funny way and you can learn a lot from them as well.
  • I am not dissing Nissan. Most people think of Nissan as part of a Holy Trinity of reliable cars you know, Honda, Toyota and Nissan but when you get the repair bill you will swear that it is for a luxury import car and not for a regular family serviceable car. It is a great car structurally I mean, but it is not a great car if you don’t count the cost beforehand. You don’t want to be in a situation where you have to choose between paying the rent on time that month and getting your car fixed. You don’t want to be in a situation where you have to choose between taking your child to the doctor and paying the co-payment and getting your car fixed. Believe me, there will be repairs.
