      Build a network. Attend a couple Chamber of Commerce meetings in your community. Any business ran function will do. Talk with the business about their work. Do not worry about advertisement just yet, get to know the business community. Pass out business cards casually and while focusing on finding the need of the community. This can be done is large towns, but it may be easier done in smaller towns due to little local competition. Take business cards and make friendly business contacts. If your goal is mainly to work at home, be open minded to other possibilities. After finding what the real need of the business community is you may to focus on something else rather then data entry.

Your target market is probably small family ran business' that are in need of expanding. In small towns look out for small offices that are having trouble competing with new business due to technology. Small vision centers and dental offices that have been around for centuries have sometimes not caught up to the technology just yet. The older offices sometimes is need of going through and putting old files into a database, while new business just need someone to put new information in their database. Keep in contact with them but do not force your business on them. If you have experience that may help their business, a small amount of free advice may go along way.

Set reasonable prices with the business that hire you to do data entry. Remember they are a business, if your relationship with them does not benefit them, they will not do business with you again.     My sister is working at home grading essays for the standard state school tests (like SAT, etc.). It seems to be working OK for her. They have good training, support, and software.
