How to Do a High Block in Soo Bahk Do

Blocking an opponent's high punches and kicks is essential in Karate practice and training. The beginning defense for this is called the high block or the high X block.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Start with your feet together and step forward into a front stance.

  2. Step 2

    Cross your arms two inches below the wrist with open palms.

  3. Step 3

    Move your arms in the direction of your back leg, then bring them forward in front of your upper abdomen.

  4. Step 4

    Raise your crossed arms upward above your head but do not block your eye sight.

  5. Step 5

    Keep your fingers pointing toward the ceiling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice blocking and punching with a partner.
