Make a Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake

A simple but delicious chocolate cake

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 spoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar (finely powdered)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  1. Step 1

Mix the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and cocoa, and sieve them together. (For some reason, my Mom's always insisted on sieving the flour, along with the other ingredients, thrice... So that's what I do too.)

  2. Step 2

In another bowl, mix the sugar, mayonnaise vanilla essence.

  3. Step 3

To this mixture, add the dry ingredients in parts, along with the water and milk. Add more milk/water if batter remains too stiff. Mix thoroughly, till batter becomes smooth, but not too thin.

  4. Step 4

Pour the mixture in a greased, round, microwave proof bowl. Round bowls are best suited baking bakes, because the heat can be distributed evenly.

  5. Step 5

Preheat the microwave at the normal setting for about a minute. Then bake for about 5-6 minutes. Insert knife at the centre of the cake. You would know that the cake is done if the knife comes out completely clean. Turn off the microwave, but let the cake remain inside the microwave for about 20 minutes.

  6. Step 6

Remove the cake from the bowl, and serve whenever you want to.

Tips & Warnings
  • At times, even after baking for about 6 minutes, the inserted knife may not come out completely clean. Do not fret or bake for another extra minute (unless the knife comes covered with gooey batter!). Usually, the cake sets for some time when you let it remain in the microwave, which takes care of that partially uncooked bit!
