How to Ask a Stranger to Dance
You see them across the room. The music is playing. The lighting is perfect. I know this would be a great moment for both of you. But someone is keeping you from asking this special person to dance. It's you. In life there are few things as nerve-wracking as asking a stranger to dance. But there are few things as rewarding.

1
Relax. Although they may look like they're walking on air, take time to just relax. This person, while amazing to you, is only a person. They get nervous same as you so don't feel like you're approaching Divinity in an impossible situation. When you're relaxed, you'll be at your best.
-
2
Breathe. Stop and make sure you're breathing normal. It's very common in these situations to breathe shallowly or very little at all! Slow your breathing and this will help you relax and approach this person for a dance.

3
Wait for the beginning of a song. Asking someone to dance right as a song ends is very awkward. Wait for a new song to start so that you're not opening your mouth as the song (and the moment) end.
-
4
Maneuver yourself closer to the person. In order to avoid the long walk across the room, start to get into position as soon as you can. Move through the crowd and get near the person. This will alleviate a lot of tension especially if people in the room are watching you make your move.
-
5
Put your hand out and ask them if they'd like to dance. Lean in so they can hear you as you outstretch your hand. Simply ask them if they'd like to dance. No need for a big production.
-
6
Keep it easy going. It's not the end of the world and lives don't hang in the balance. If you approach the situation with a relaxed and easy-going attitude, it will project to your heart's desire and they'll be relaxed as well.
