One common problem in interior decorating is having a room that is very small and trying to make it appear larger. In this article, I'll share some tips that I've found helpful.
Take a look a the color of the room and the lighting. If it's too dark, even a normal-sized room can appear closed-in. Paint colors need to be light. Lighting needs to be bright. Consider very minimal window arrangements, such as blinds. Thick curtains will block out too much light in most cases.
Step2
Wall mirrors in small rooms are great because they create the illusion of more space, especially if they're catching light from the window or other light source.
Step3
Consider the size and position of furniture in comparison to the room. If you buy furniture that's too large, it's going to seem like it takes up half the room. Consider color here as well, as a light neutral color will have the same impact as light colors on the walls. If it's a spare bedroom, consider a futon so you can expand it into a bed only when you have overnight guests.
Tips & Warnings
Try different positions with furniture every once in awhile. This keeps a room interesting and you often find more creative arrangements over time.
Using dark colors in small rooms can make it appear crowded and cramped. Used those for large rooms you want to appear more cozy.
