When times are tight--and even when they aren't, finding easy ways to save money on household necessities is a past time that frugal minded people take seriously. Because the majority of spending on household goods is devoted to things found in the kitchen, money saving tips for the kitchen are especially helpful. Try this easy trick for saving money on dishwashing soap.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Spouted glass bottle
  • Dish soap
Step1
Make a quick visit to the kitchen section of your local home goods store. Keep your eyes open for the glassware section. You will be looking for a small glass bottle with a spouted top--the intended purpose of the bottle is for use as a vinaigrette or olive oil dispenser. The style and size of the bottle will vary greatly--you can choose whatever appeals to you. Find a bottle that will fit nicely on the back of your kitchen sink.
Step2
Give the bottle a quick scrub or just throw it in the dishwasher depending on the care instructions included with your bottle. Take the time to dry it well--this bottle will be kept in plain sight in your kitchen so you'll want it sparkling clean.
Step3
Fill the bottle with dish soap and tightly replace the cap. Test the flow of the bottle by tipping it over gently toward the sink and allowing a few drops to escape from the spout. This will give you an idea of how much comes out and how quickly it leaves the spout.
Step4
Keep the bottle where it is easily accessible at your kitchen sink so you can use it every time you wash dishes. You will be amazed at how much longer your dish soap lasts when you use this method. You will use far less soap each time you wash dishes and thus save money on the grocery portion of your budget.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid build up at the opening of the spout by rinsing in hot water from time to time. Clean of drips down the sides of the bottle with warm water and a quick scrub with a dish cloth or scrub brush to keep the bottle nice and clean.
  • Dish soap can make the glass bottle more slippery, so use caution.
