Here are some steps to create a basic silk floral arrangement that can be used for a centerpiece or everyday decoration.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • vase or other type of container
  • silk floral stems or bouquets
  • floral foam
  • floral or wire cutter
  • filler such as glass marbles or pebbles or something like foil paper to disguise the foam
  • silk greenery
  1. Step 1

First of all consider the facts--this arrangement must have balance. A wad of flowers cannot merely be shoved in a pot and called an arrangement. Overdoing a display is a definite bad thing. It must have adequate spacing between the floral items and they must be placed at levels. For a basic display, we need a three tier scheme, also known as man, earth, and heaven. There is a low part, a middle part and then a high part to the arrangement.

  2. Step 2

When picking out the silk plants for the project, a great many details must be thought of. First, the size of the container they are placed in will matter to how large the flowers can be. The colors must go tegether well. The flowers must look good togther--i.e. a rose does not go well with cat tails. A size pattern also helps. The highest point in the display will likely be best as one single larger flower with smaller flowers sorounding it on the next level, and then greens for the lowest level.

  3. Step 3

After all the supplies have been gathered, place the floral foam into the container. If it fits, that is good--if not cut it down to size. If the foam is loose, it also might be best to use a glue gun to glue it in place. (This would be the time to line the container before glueing the foam in place if using decorative paper to do so).

  4. Step 4

Cut the flower for the center of the arrangement to the right height along the stem. Make sure it looks very good at the height that it's
at--if it is too long, trim it to the right size. Then place it to the center of the foam.

  5. Step 5

Cut the flowers for the second layer to a height that agrees with the flower in the center of the display. Arrange the flowers simply in the container--about three or four maximum should be good of these smaller flowers.

  6. Step 6

Now cut and arrange the greens tastefully below the two levels of flowers, making sure they look appropriate the rest of the piece. Trime them accordingly if they do not look right.

  7. Step 7

Place rocks or marbles in the container until they fully cover the floral foam. An optional bow can be added with or without the glue gun to finish the piece.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pick flowers that agree color wise.
  • Be careful with the wire cutter, these can cause injury to the people who use them.

on 5/21/2008 I like to use floral moss to hid my foam. There are so many lovely stones or marbles on the market now the sky is the limit. Thanks for all the tips.
