Choosing the right golf club is key in the success of any golfer. But making sure you have the right club doesn't mean you need to have the most expensive one. Follow these easy steps for choosing the right golf club for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Figure out how fast you hit the ball. This can be measured at most golf shops. The reason this is important is because the speed you hit the ball will tell you what type of shaft flex you need in a club. "Flex" refers to the amount of flexibility in the shaft of the club. There are different degrees of shaft flex depending on whether you have a powerful swing and require more stability, or a less powerful swing and prefer more flex.

  2. Step 2

Determine your ability. This will indicate what types of clubs you need to haul around the course. If you're an accomplished golfer and have a low-handicap, consider carrying at least one wood, a driver, lower numbered irons and at least three wedges. Mid-range golfers should carry the same clubs as an accomplished golfer, but also a 7-wood, 3-iron and a 9-iron. Beginners should use a 3-wood when teeing off and use the same clubs already mentioned.

  3. Step 3

Consider using a hybrid club. These are a cross between a fairway wood and a long iron. Using this will allow you to eliminate other clubs in your bag. they are designed to launch the ball into the air for long distances and out of tough lies.

  4. Step 4

Make sure the length of the club is appropriate. The majority of adults should use standard length clubs. The exceptions are those players who are short or tall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider the composition of the golf ball. When purchasing them remember, any name brand 100 compression ball will go farther than a 70 compression driving range ball.
