How to Remove Sidewalk Chalk From Stucco Walls

Many children love to create works of art with sidewalk chalk on your driveway and sidewalks. But what can you do when your precocious child decides make their latest creation on your stucco walls? This article will provide a way to remove the chalk without damaging your walls.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

• Bucket of Water
• Scrub Brush/Broom with stiff bristles
• Dish Soap

1. WET THE WALL. Most of the chalk should wash off with water. You could use a hose for this as higher pressure will remove the chalk easiest. If you do not have a hose or are in an area that is on water restriction, you can just use the scrub brush or an old car wash sponge to spread water on the wall from a bucket.
2. BRUSH THE WALL. Use the scrub brush or broom to brush off any of the chalk that got into the grooves and notches in the stucco.
3. SOAP THE WALL. If any of the markings seem particularly difficult to remove with just water, pour a small amount of dish soap onto the brush or broom and scrub the area again.
4. RINSE THE WALL. After you have scrubbed the chalk from the wall, rinse the area with clean water to remove any residual chalk particles and/or soap.

Tips & Warnings

• Since stucco is primarily used outside of a house, use a biodegradable dish soap so that it does not harm the environment when rinsed from the wall.
• Use an old toothbrush for some of the smaller crannies. It will get in there better than a scrub brush or broom.
• Be careful not to use too much force when scrubbing so you do not damage the texture of the wall.
