Step 1
Be Aware "All Lace Front Wigs Are Not The Same Quality" --
With fly-by-night lace front wig retailers popping up on the Internet overnight, most wonder are all lace front wigs the same. Why some wigs cost $300 and others cost $3,000. We researched wig companies and found some interesting facts.
A lace front wig is not a lace front wig. They differ in many ways. -
Step 2
Ask as many questions as possible before ordering --
Some Facts:
1. Most web sites selling wigs online purchase their wigs from China.
2. 90% of the wigs are manufactured in Asia. The other 10% are manufactured in Europe and United States.
3. Most of the lace front wig distributors are mislead -- promoting that their wigs are made with Indian Remy hair and they aren’t. (human and animal hair are blended).
4. Natural “Human” hair wigs are made using real hair, which doesn't necessarily mean that the hair is from humans. In some cases animal hair (from angora, horses, yak and sheep) is used. Most wigs that use animal hair, however, do so by blending it with human hair. There are varying grades of natural hair wigs available, depending on whether or not the hair is human or animal, and the ethnic origin of the human hair.
5. Hand-Tied Wigs: In hand-tied wigs and hairpieces, the hairs are individually knotted to the mesh cap by hand offering a more-natural look. Hand-tying also has the benefit of generally being more-loosely attached and therefore can be shifted along the mesh to alter the partings and styles more easily. This process takes longer to create the wig and therefore increases the price.
6. Machine-Tied Wigs: Machine-tied wigs use wefts of hair that are sewn to a cap to create the wig or hairpiece more quickly. These wigs tend to be less expensive and more widely available. They are excellent for persons who need to be cost conscious in choosing their wigs and hairpieces.
7. Semi-Hand-tied Wigs: These wigs feature a combination of machine sewn wefts and hand-tied hairs, as well as a combination of natural and synthetic hair, offering a durable, more-natural looking wig at a reasonable price. -
Step 3
Choosing the right wig base --
8. Are wig caps different on different wigs? What is the material of the foundation?
9. Most lace wigs are made completely on nylon lace. Nylon lace (also known as Swiss lace or French lace) is very thin and should be handled with care. The nylon front lace on some of the standard wigs are theatre quality.
10. All French and Swiss lace made wigs are not the same. Bases vary and some are more fragile than others. It really depends on the oregin of the material. Asian wigs are made with French and Swiss lace base materials manufactured in Korea and China. Lace from Switzerland “Swiss Lace” and France “French Lace” are more durable and cost more to produce. European and American manufacturers mainly use this lace.
11. There are several types of wig caps but all of these types can vary between manufacturers. Some of the wig caps are more comfortable than others, but they each provide a solution. There are machine made caps, combination wig caps, hand-tied wig caps, monofilament top wig caps, caps that are very light made with a mesh and "stretchable thin skin" and there are caps that are vacuum based which may be made of silicon or latex or similar materials.
12. Monofilament top wig caps are usually all hand tied/handmade. The monofilament top is very natural looking when someone looks at your head. The back is a slightly stretchy mesh net on which hair (synthetic or human) is tied, or knotted by hand into the mesh netting of the wig cap. These appear to look like your natural scalp with a natural hairline.
13. Another style that The Women's Shoppe carries is handmade, and used with human hair only. This cap is a very light comfortable mesh, combined with a "stretchable thin skin" and delicate French lace. This is a wonderful answer for anyone experiencing total hair loss.
14. Vacuum cap wigs are the most natural and most secure. They are truly custom made for one client's head. A cast is usually made of the head and then the hair is hand tied into the base. This style is also the most expensive.
