May 15, 2008 One of the most treasured scrolls is going on exhibit in the Israel Museum. This scroll, the gem of the Dead Sea Scrolls, contains the book of Isaiah and an excerpt from Psalms 133. It was written in approximately 120 B.C. The museums decision to put the scroll on exhibit was made to celebrate the Israel’s 60th anniversary.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • A plaine ticket to Isreal in the next three months.
Step1
Due to its fragile nature, the manuscript will only be on display for a short time. The last time it was put up for viewing it was removed from exhibit due to new cracks which appeared in the calf skin parchment. The scroll should be on display for three months.
Step2
Dead Sea Scrolls The scroll is not likely to ever leave Israel due to its fragile nature so it will be necessary to travel to Israel to view it. Those who are able to go to see it in the next three months are fortunate as it has not been seen in four decades and may not be again for that amount of time except for by classified personnel and museum curators.
Step3
This scroll in specific is unique among the Dead Sea Scrolls as it is the only one which contains a complete book. Others may be viewed at other times, but they can contain vastly different information, including other fragments of the Old Testament books, treatises on communal living and apocalyptic war.
