Why spend $100.00 on an anti-wrinkle moisturizer or $25.00 for an exfoliant? There are many natural food products around your house that will do the same job for much less. In the long run, those expensive moisturizers and products will not make much of a difference. Try these around-the-house remedies for various skin issues and you'll be happy to know how much money you can save.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Brown Sugar/Coarse salt
  • Lemon juice
  • Honey
  • Olive Oil
  • Plain yogurt/milk

Step1
Olive Oil Dry skin:
Olive oil works really well for dry skin, especially when combined with egg yolks or honey. It is very simple to mix the ingredients. Just blend until smooth, apply, let sit for 15 minutes, and gently wash away with warm water.
Step2
Coarse sea salt Acne prone skin:
Gently scrub your face with a natural exfoliant such as coarse salt or brown sugar. Both should do the job to flake away dead skin cells that could be clogging your pores and causing break-outs. Salt is also an antiseptic (prevents the growth of bacteria) that will help clear away dirt and other impurities in your skin. After exfoliating apply a mask of either plain yogurt or milk. The lactic acid in either of these will help clear acne by drying it out and tightening your pores. It will also bring a subtle glow to your skin.
Step3
Honey Blackheads:
Honey is great for treating blackheads, especially stubborn ones on the nose. Apply honey, preferably warm honey, to trouble areas and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Wash away with warm water.
Step4
Large pores:
Lemon juice is an excellent toner. It reduces the appearance of large pores by tightening the skin. Be sure not to use too much, or you may have a mild tingle. You can either get juice from a lemon juice bottle or actually squeeze the juice out of a lemon. Be sure not to leave it on for too long (no longer than 5 minutes) or it may tingle and feel uncomfortable. Wash away with warm water.

Tips & Warnings

  • Olive oil is not only great for skin, but for your hair and nails. It will turn hard, brittle nails (that break easily)into soft, strong, flexible nails. It also adds shine to your hair. Apply about 2 table spoons to your scalp and hair, leave it for at least 10 minutes, and wash it off in the shower.
  • These remedies are cheap and effective ways to help rid yourself of some annoying skin problems, but are not meant to cure them or prevent them from coming back. The results you will see may not be equivalent to certain products or professional treatments.

on 5/28/2008 Dear Ladybug,

There are a couple of ways you can use olive oil to soften the texture of your nails and make them less brittle. The key for dry, brittle nails is to lock in moisture.

Method (1): Soak your hands in about a half-cup of warm olive oil. Oil treatment helps moisturize nails while helping to retain moisture over a long period of time.

Method (2): Take a Q-tip and dip one of the ends into a bottle of olive oil. Or, if it is easier, pour some out into a little bowl and then dip your Q-tip in. Then just brush the Q-tip over your cuticles and on the top and inside of your nails. Keep dipping when needed.

Hope this helps!
