Estimating the amount of materials for any job can be done quite easily, All you need is minimal tools and some guidance

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • tape measure,pencil,paper,calculator

Step1
The first thing you want to do is draw a sketch of the room on paper. Mark where all the fixed appliances, cabinets and any other item that can not be moved.
Step2
Draw an example of how you want to lay the tiles ie. diagonal, straight, with a boarder or without.
Step3
Measure the width and the length of the room. multiply these two numbers together this will give you the rough square footage. You will want to add 7% for waste.
Step4
If you are laying the tiles diagonal you will need to add 10% waste.
Depending on the size of the tile the square footage in the boxes vary. For instance 12 inch tiles usually have about 11 square ft per box ( 11 tiles )
Step5
divide the square footage of tiles in each box by your total square footage of the room and that will give you the total number of boxes needed to complete the job. Remember to add the percentage of waste before dividing the number of boxes
