Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Drive!
  1. Step 1

A small or home business depends on the promotion it's get early on and continuously to keep it alive. It doesn't have to be expensive and it can be very easy. If you have a computer your first option is to set up a My Space site with information regarding your business. On the site you can give small tips and advice, a history of the business and the products or services involved. Also give weekly updates as to what is happening in your business world.

  2. Step 2

Send an email announcement to everyone you know and ask them to pass it forward. This is your electronic word of mouth! Tell them about the good services and products and some of the funny events trying to set up the business. This will make it more personal and an interesting story to all who receive it.

  3. Step 3

Contact your local newspaper and have them do a story on you and your business. Most newspapers are happy to have a community story to share in an effort to bring people together.

  4. Step 4

Join your local Chamber of Commerce and offer them a discount. Keep informed of what is happening in the community through them so you can have your own business as involved as possible to keep your name out there.

  5. Step 5

Check for your city events and get your business involved. Set up a stand with your products or services or even offer a raffle for one very special item.

  6. Step 6

Contact charities and hospitals and ask how your business can help. Visit children, adults and staff. Donate a small amount of funds or a portion of profits from a future sale. Make sure to publicize the donation sale. It will help to promote your business and increase sales for the cause.

  7. Step 7

Use business cards freely. When you visit any other business leave your card. If they will let you leave a stand of cards for customers then do so and make sure you check it often. Hand the cards out to everyone you meet and introduce yourself as the business owner. Be sure to smile a lot and invite everyone to take part in your business.

  8. Step 8

Offer free services or products to certain organizations or schools to help promote the business. You can donate a product to be auctioned for an important community event to raise funds.

  9. Step 9

Use your business cards when you visit other businesses by choosing a few employees or customers and signing the back for a huge discount or free product. Make sure they can call or locate your business from the card. Now you're set so get out there and make friends and lots of great money. You have to promote in order to keep business returning.
