There are lots of ways to fry fish. Here's an easy and delicious recipe for beer-battered fish and chips.

Things You'll Need:

  • Dark beer
  • Flour
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Baking powder
  • Whitefish fillets
  • Vegetable oil
  • Shortening
  • Pots
  • Whisk
  • Paper towel
  1. Step 1

    Fill a large, thick-bottomed pan 2/3 full with a high smoke point vegetable oil or shortening. Be sure to leave some room at the top.

  2. Step 2

    Fill a pot up with flour and put it within easy reach of your stove.

  3. Step 3

    Beat an egg in a pot with a whisk.

  4. Step 4

    Mix in 1 cup of beer, then 1 cup of flour, stirring briskly.

  5. Step 5

    Mix in a tsp. of salt and a pinch of pepper.

  6. Step 6

    Cover the pot and let it stand for about 30 minutes.

  7. Step 7

    Mix in the baking powder once you are ready to cook.

  8. Step 8

    Heat the oil to on medium high.

  9. Step 9

    Dip a fish fillet in flour, then dip it in batter.

  10. Step 10

    Put the fillet in the oil. Be careful, as it will immediately start to bubble fiercely.

  11. Step 11

    When the fish turns a golden brown, remove it and place it on paper towel to drain excess grease.

  12. Step 12

    Continue until you have fried all your fish.
