Things You'll Need:
- A lever action rifle
- Bullets
- Ear protection
-
Step 1
Uncock the lever by pulling it down and away from the rifle. This action will send the bolt down and put the hammer in place.
-
Step 2
Take the correct caliber bullet and slide it into the chamber.
-
Step 3
Recock the lever. The rifle is now ready to fire.
-
Step 4
After firing, uncock the lever again. On most models, this will eject the spent shell.
-
Step 5
Follow steps one through three to reload.
-
Step 1
A gun will not fire when the safety is in place. Unlike most rifles where the safety is handled with a button, the lever action is trickier.
-
Step 2
To take the safety off, use your thumb to ease back the hammer on the firing pin. It is ready to fire when you hear a click.
-
Step 3
However, if you do not fire and want to put the safety back on, push the hammer all the way down and hold it with your thumb. The gun cannot fire at this point.
-
Step 4
While holding the hammer down, squeeze the trigger and hold it back. Do not let go.
-
Step 5
Raise the hammer slowly with your thumb until it is back in the original safe position. Then release the trigger.
