Every golfer from Willie Nelson to the lowliest duffer has found Austin a paradise for his favorite game. Here are some places where you can take some time off to knock the little white balls around.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get serious with your golf game at the Barton Creek Resort and Spa. This 4,000-acre resort features four 18-hole courses--Fozio Foothills, Fazio Canyons, Crenshaw Hillside and Palmer Lakeside, named after their famous designers. Sign up for one of the courses at the Chuck Cook Golf Academy or treat a loved one to a golf vacation package. Other amenities include an indoor jogging track, outdoor jogging trail, miniature golf course, full spa, nature trails, 11 tennis courts and dozens of children's activities.

  2. Step 2

Satisfy your craving for luxury at the Horseshoe Bay Resort Marriott on Lake LBJ, an hour away from Austin. This resort includes three golf courses designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones, an 18-hole par 72 putting course, not to mention 12 tennis courts (grass, hard surface and clay), a marina with boats and other water sports equipment, a spa, fitness center, a kids club and activity center, 4 pools and 6 restaurants and bars. Stay in a room, suite or condo and land your plane on the resort's private air strip.

  3. Step 3

Head out to Lake Travis for a relaxing weekend at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. While there is no on-premises golf course, guests have access to four 18-hole golf courses nearby: Falconhead, Flintrock Falls, Yaupon and Live Oak. The resort includes the full-service San Saba Spa, meeting facilities, 2 bars, a 3-level pool, fitness center and a marina with boats that can be rented. Ask about the special golf packages.

  4. Step 4

Looking for a place to take the whole family? Then drive down to the 400-acre Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa between Austin and Bastrop. Try out the 18-hole Arthur Hills-designed Wolfdancer golf course, practice on the 13-acre driving range, improve your game at the Wolfdancer Academy of Golf, or get outfitted at the pro shop. Order up a massage at the Django Spa, ride a horse, cool off at the water park or kick back in one of the 7 restaurants or 3 bars. There are separate, detailed menus of activities for children and teens. There's really more activities at this resort than anybody can do in one visit.
