Making sure your children eat healthy isn't alway so easy. Especially if you have picky eaters. Here are a few easy, yet healthy ideas for some snacks that your child is sure to try.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 asparagus spears
  • tube of crescent rolls
  • 4 slices american cheese
  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • table blend Mrs. Dash
  • assortment of fruits
  • kabob sticks
  • yogurt
  1. Step 1

The first snack uses the same idea as 'pigs in a blanket', but steps it up a notch on the food pyramid. Instead of using hotdogs or sausage, we use asparagus spears. It's a great way to add some healthy veggies to a child's diet. Just seperate each crescent roll on a baking sheet. Break each slice of cheese in half. Place a piece of cheese on the big end of each roll. Next, place an asparagus spear on top of the cheese. Roll each one up, starting with the big end. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crescent rolls begin to brown.

  2. Step 2

The next idea is just as simple, and just as healthy an alternative to what a child normally wants to eat as a snack. We replace regular French fries with sweet potato fries. And we don't use grease. Simply cut each sweet potato into fry strips. Season them with a little Mrs. Dash table blend seasoning (this cuts out the salt!). Spread them out evenly on a baking sheet and bake them at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes, or until they are to your desired tenderness. You can use ketchup as dipping sauce, just like with regular fries!

  3. Step 3

The third snack is a way to turn healthy fruits into a nice dessert. And it's fun! Chop up your assortment of fruits into bite-sized pieces. (I like to use bananas, apples, grapes, and strawberries) Fill your kabob sticks with as many as you would like. Use a fruit flavored cup of yogurt as a dipping sauce. You can't get any more fun, or any healthier than that!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can switch up the dessert idea with the kabobs, and use veggies instead. Just use a fat-free ranch as the dipping sauce.
  • You don't have to stick with American cheese for the crescent snack. Use any cheese you'd like.
  • You can even turn the sweet potato fries into something sweet by seasoning them a little brown sugar and topping them with powdered sugar!
  • Watch young children with the kabob sticks, as they can be sharp!
