If you want to build a strong chest, then it is important that you be able to exercise the upper and lower pectoral muscles, as well as the outer chest muscles. 1
Inspect the metal tubing that the weight machine is made from. Look to make sure there are no dents or bend in the metal, and that there are no cracks or holes in the welding where two pieces were welded together.
-
2
Sit in the machine and try a few mock exercises with the equipment to make sure that everything is comfortably within reach. If not, adjust the machine to make sure it can be properly adjusted to fit your frame. That is probably one of the most important components, because you probably won’t use a machine that doesn’t fit well.

If the weight machine is capable of doing multiple variations of chest exercises, ask the seller for demonstrations on how to do each one. Get an idea of what the equipment is fully capable of doing for you. A weight machine can be an expensive investment, so it is important to know just how much use you can get out of the machine.

4
Examine the weights to see the minimum and maximum weight. The minimum weight should not be more than you are capable of lifting, but the maximum should be an amount that will challenge you. If this is not the case, find out if it is possible to replace the weights with heavier or lighter weights.

Tips & Warnings
Measure the floor space that you have available before you look at weight machines. If the machine is too large to fit in the area you have available, there is no need to even consider it, just move on to the next model.
