A lot of people are worried about contracting a computer virus through their email... and for good reason. Hackers are growing smarter and smarter each day and no longer need you to open an attachment to spread their worms, spyware and other viruses. Check out this requested article on how to reduce your vulnerability by changing your Yahoo Mail account to display in plain text format.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Internet Explorer

Step1
Adjusting Your Settings:
After you sign into your Yahoo account, click the "Check Mail" option under the Message Center located to the left of your screen.

After that, select "Mail Options" on the far-right of the main toolbar. From there you will select "General Preferences".

Under Message Actions, change "Replying" to "Include Full Original Message" and change "Forwarding" to "Forward As In-Line Text".

Be sure to hit the "Save" button before exiting your setup.
Step2
Changing Your Signature:
Go back to your "Mail Options" screen (see step 1) and select signature. Then, depending on your browser, you will need to select "Plain" or hit the "Plain Text" radio button next to "Editor".

Again, be sure to hit the "Save" button before exiting the Mail Options.
Step3
After Adjusting Your Settings:
Make sure to choose "Plain" rather than "Colors and Graphics" when in the "Compose" window. Some other browsers will require you uncheck the box labeled "Allow HTML Tags".
