So you're thirsty for an old-fashioned letter in the mail and tiring of your everyday email account. Why not mix it up a bit and let the medium you deliver your message in be as unique as you are? Most people don't know that you are not limited to sending plain white envelopes in the mail. You can use some everyday items around your house to send a message to your friends or relatives that will stand our from the rest of their mail for sure. You are only limited by your imagination.

Things You'll Need:

  • Exact-o knife
  • Old magazines
  • Stamps
  • Regular tape

How to Make Post-Office Friendly Custom Packaging

  1. Step 1

Take your exact-o knife or scissors and cut out your favorite, colorful page in a magazine.

  2. Step 2

Laying your magazine page out side by side with a regular envelope, fold the magazine page into thirds until it fits the same size as the regular mail envelope.

  3. Step 3

Tape up the side of your folded, hand-made envelope with basic scotch tape. Insert your letter into your hand-made envelope and then fold down the remaining top side. Cover with tape.

  4. Step 4

Slap a regular plain, sticky mailing label on the front of your envelope and address as you normally would. If you've made your envelope the same size as a normal envelope, there is no need to go to the post office and ask if you need special postage. If you have decided to make it larger than normal-that's ok! Just take it to the post office to have it weighed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try and fold your envelope in such a way that the picture on front allows you to work with it for the label. For example, try and fold the envelope so that a person's mouth is open in the center and you can put the label coming out of their mouth, so it looks like they are shouting out the address.
  • Make sure you thoroughly tape up the sides of your hand-made masterpiece so that nothing falls out. Also-never use staples or your envelope will get rejected by the mail machines.
