I can't remember a time when I had to miss work due to a sore throat, but I answer a high volume of calls for a living and the pain was unbearable. I tried everything, chamomile tea, gargling with apple cider and sucking on a lozenger, which actually made my throat burn. A lozenger that made my throat feel like it was on fire? That was not normal nor was the pain, so I went to the doctor who gave me antibiotics, but no relief. It wasn't until I had dinner with my sister that I began to feel some comfort. I was tired of sipping on soup and decided to suffer the consequence of swallowing something harder than mashed potatoes. After the first swallow I began to feel a warm sensation that wasn't painful and by the second intake I could actually swallow without grimacing. I asked my sister what she put in her food and she said Cayenne Pepper and then she offered to make me her special lemon tea, which I gladly accepted. The lemon tea actually turned out to be a cleansing and about 5 to 6 cups later I was completely healed by the next day. Take a look at the recipe below, it may be just what you need to feel better again.

on 5/14/2008 I do this kind of thing sometimes but I usually put honey instead of maple syrup. In fact, I drink this sometimes just for the heck of it - lemon is great for the liver.
