A small fleece bag with short handles makes a great purse for little girls, a carryall for little boys and a lunch bag for anyone. This bag is a very simple sewing project that only requires a few inexpensive supplies. Read on and learn how to sew the handles to your bag.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide how long you want your bag handles to be. 14 inches by 1 ½ inches is a good length for most purposes. Cut two strips of fleece the length and width you desire.

  2. Step 2

Pin the straps where you want them. Measure two inches in from the outside edge of the bag, then pin one end of a strap in place from the inside of the bag. Do this for both ends of both straps.

  3. Step 3

Sew the straps in place on your sewing machine. Follow the seam line for the trim you sewed on the bag earlier. Backstitch the ends of your seams to make them more durable.

  4. Step 4

Trim the threads from the seams on your bag to make it neater. If you wish, sew embellishments like buttons, ribbon or patches on your bag to personalize it. Your bag is now ready.

Tips & Warnings
  • Depending on the weight of the fleece you use for your bag, you may need to change the needle on your sewing machine to a heavy-duty needle.
  • Be careful not to sew over your straight pins on your sewing machine. Sewing over straight pins can break your needle and damage your machine.
