One way to really impress friends and family at your next dinner party, is to paint the trays and platters you serve food on by hand. You can create a theme, an interesting design, or just add a fresh splash of color to an old food tray. Here are some tips on how to paint the bottom of the food tray.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Food tray
  • Paint
  • Brushes
  1. Step 1

Complete the painting of your design on your food tray first. Because the primary focus of your food tray is going to be a picture or design of something in particular, you want that completed so whatever you fill in around your design compliments it.

  2. Step 2

Determine what colors will enhance your painting in the middle. Contrasting colors will allow your design to pop, while colors similar in tone will keep the painting on the food tray subtle. It's all up to what you are trying to create.

  3. Step 3

Paint the bottom of the food tray using a small brush. You want to respect the integrity of the object or picture you've painted. By using a small brush head, you will be able to paint deftly around those objects so that your lines don't blur.

Tips & Warnings
  • After you complete the painting of your food tray, make sure you take the time to seal it so that you can serve food and wash it once your dinner party is over. A clear coat sealant will be available at any arts and crafts store.
  • Play a game with your guests at the dinner party. Then whoever wins can take the food tray home as a souvenir for the evening.
  • Always make sure you paint in a well ventilated area. If need be use a fan to circulate the air properly.
