Salmon is a wonderful fish that is packed with heart healthy Omega-3 oils. But because the fish is so rich with oil, it can be a little hard to remove off the grill. The meat becomes so tender, it can literally fall apart on you. Here are some tips on how to remove salmon from the grill so that it remains in one piece.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Meat thermometer
  • Spatula
  • Salmon
  • Grill
  • Grill brush
  • Canola oil
Step1
Prep the grill for your salmon. Before the salmon even hits the grill, you want to make sure your grill is ready for it. This means making sure that you clean the grill with your grill brush so that all debris from previous cookouts is gone.
Step2
Spread canola oil along the grill rack. This will give the grill rack a nice slippery base and keep your salmon from sticking to it.
Step3
Put a meat thermometer in your salmon so that you know when it cooks in accordance with your recipe. Because salmon is such a delicate fish, a couple minutes of over-cooking can suddenly make the fish so supple that it is falling apart. By using a meat thermometer, you'll know exactly when it has to come off the grill.
Step4
Slide your spatula briskly under your salmon when it is time to remove it from the grill. Save your tongs for flipping burgers and hot dogs. The spatula will allow you to be under the entire piece of fish so that all of that tender meat stays intact.
Step5
Place the salmon on your plate after the vegetables and side dishes are all ready plated. Again, because salmon is such a tender fish, when you remove it from the grill, you want it to be resting on top of or beside the other side dishes. This will keep you from accidentally piling a summer salad or scoop of mashed potatoes on top of it.
