Beautifully presented food can turn a great meal into a masterpiece. How you prepare the ingredients can be just as important as how you season them. There are many ways to cut vegetables. For salmon, you can slice the onion and lemon into thin neat pieces. This will flavor the salmon and look amazing when served at your dinner table.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yellow onion
  • Lemon
  • Chef knife
  • Cutting board
  1. Step 1

Cut off the end of the onion first. It's easier to remove when the onion is whole.

  2. Step 2

Use a vegetable or chef knife to cut the onion in half. Face the open half of the onion away from you, and peel the outside off.

  3. Step 3

Slice the peeled onion into 1/8-inch sections. One-fourth of the onion will be plenty for your meal.

  4. Step 4

Place a lemon on the same cutting board, and cut the lemon in half. Leave the peel on the lemon; it will add to the flavor.

  5. Step 5

Slice half of the lemon into 1/16-inch sections.

  6. Step 6

Remove the seeds from the center of the lemon with the tip of your knife. The seeds will slide out easily.

  7. Step 7

Place the onions and lemons aside until needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Holding the open side off the onion away from you when you cut helps prevent an unexpected crying episode.
  • Gently rolling a lemon on your counter before cutting it will make it much easier to juice, because it will release some of the juice before you squeeze.
