How to Make Gourmet Tea Drinks

A cup of tea is a great idea for a get together with friends, and having gourmet tea adds a little zing to any gathering. Invite some of your favorite friends over and grab your ceramic teapot, your grandmother's tea cup set and some tall glasses.

• Varieties of Honey
• Mint Leaves

1. Plan a menu and decide if you want to serve hot tea, cold tea or both. Keep the weather forecast in mind and the personalities and tastes of your guests as you decide on two or three flavors of tea you'd like to serve.
2. Make a pot of green tea, which will be the base for all of your recipes. For a truly gourmet experience, hit a local specialty tea shop or order from one online to get the highest quality green tea. You can also choose one or two other flavors you think your friends will appreciate.
3. Scavenge through your garden or grocery store for fresh plants that enhance flavor such as mint or ginger. Wash the plants thoroughly, cut into pieces and steep in the pot in a loose tea ball.
4. Peruse the shops for flavored sugars. Think about which ones will highlight the tea leaves you purchased. Choices of flavored sugars range from vanilla to citrus.
5. Purchase several types of honey, preferably from a local venue. Not only does this add a variety in flavor, but it's also a great conversation starter.
6. Freeze juices and sprigs of mint in ice cube trays. Lots of ice makes a great iced tea (along with the sweeteners), and even people who drink hot tea often like to cool their tea down with a cube before drinking.
