Curly hair is a classic look that you can make elegant and glamorous or fun and whimsical. If you want to avoid curling irons, flat irons and other thermo-styling tools, opt for pin curls to give your short hair curls.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with wet hair. It shouldn't be soaking wet, but you want the hair wet enough so it can dry in the shape of the pin curls. Have a spray bottle handy in case portions of your hair begin to dry before you get all your curls pinned.

  2. Step 2

Piece out small sections of your hair. If your hair is thick, pile the top part of your hair on top of your head and focus on the bottom section first.

  3. Step 3

Spray the root of your hair with hairspray, or use your favorite product to help give your hair some hold. Rub a little product on your hair to the ends to help hold them together.

  4. Step 4

Curl your short hair up from the ends, creating a circle. The bigger the circle, the bigger the curl will be. Tuck your ends in the circle as you roll your hair up to create a smooth circle.

  5. Step 5

Pin your curl flat to your head. Use a bobby pin or a curling pin to secure the curl. You may need more than one bobby pin to ensure that the ends tuck in securely.

  6. Step 6

Continue curling pin curls all the way around your head. When you're done, it looks like a bunch of small circles pinned to your head.

  7. Step 7

Allow your pin curls to dry completely and then unpin your curls. Finish with your favorite styling product and enjoy your curls, which should last a couple of days on some hair types.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save time by pinning larger sections of hair. Just know that larger sections mean larger pin curls and a longer drying time.
