Step 1
Check the frame to make sure all the struts are in good condition. If any struts are bent or warped, rebend them bent back into shape or replace them.

Examine closely all the welds along the seams. Make sure that cracks or splits don't compromise the trailer's strength. If you find any cracks, put a new weld yourself or pay a shop to repair it but make sure you have it repaired before using it again.

Step 3
Remember to check the fender welds. If the fender comes off due to rust while on the road, you could lose your load and cause a serious accident. Replace any areas that have rusted.

Step 4
Look at the areas where the axle springs mount. These areas are high stress points, so make sure that there's no rust present.

Step 5
Walk around the trailer inspecting it in its entirety. Replace any rusted or cracked components.
