Things You'll Need:
- Skateboard
- Helmet and padding
- Skating bowl
-
Step 1
Stand at the edge of the skateboarding bowl so that you are behind the rim.
-
Step 2
Place your back foot on the tail of the skateboard so that it is perpendicular to the nose of the skateboard. At this point, the tail of the skateboard will be resting on the rim, with the nose up in the air over the bowl.
-
Step 3
Bend your knees slightly and drop into the bowl. When you are ready to make the drop into the bowl, bring your front foot onto the skateboard and adjust your back foot so it moves from the tail of the skateboard to over the back trucks.
-
Step 4
Keep your focus ahead of you on the pavement of the bowl versus on your feet. Because of the steep nature of the bowl, your drop into the bowl will be much faster than if you were dropping into something shallower. Keeping your eyes ahead of your body will help you maintain your balance.
-
Step 5
Carve back and forth, as you reach the bottom of the bowl. As you ride down into the bowl, you will build quite a bit of momentum because of the steep nature of the bowl. Be ready to turn back and forth so that you slow down. Otherwise once you drop in, you may fly up off the other side.

on 3/19/2009 Are you kidding me?People, please; don't believe this tripe.Skateboarding is NOT "all about the tricks you can do" and it's not about getting "street cred".It's about enjoying yourself, and maybe challenging yourself. Seriously.Ugh. This article is so full of crap it makes me sick. And don't try to carve back and forth as you reach the bottom of the bowl. You'll be going too fast and you won't have time.Honestly, if you wanna learn to drop into a bowl, you're just gonna have to get out there and practice doing it. But be warned - it's freaking hard (and scary) at first, and you're almost certainly gonna fall because it feels so unnatural, so wear something to protect yourself. And don't just start off by trying to drop in. Skate around the bowl for a while and get a feel for it.
