How to Ride Fakie on Skateboards

After learning how to ride forward on a skateboard, it's time to learn how to skate backward. Skateboarding backwards, or pulling a Fakie, is a must skill for all would be street skaters. Like any move, its calls for practice and a helmet. Look below on how get started riding backward or riding Fakie on a skateboard.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Begin by knowing how to ride forward on a skateboard. This means having the front feet on top of the front set of bolts and pushing off the ground with the left foot. Both feet ride on top of the board until a move begins.

  2. Step 2

    Place the front foot further back than usual on the skateboard. Behind the front bolts is preferred.

  3. Step 3

    Push forward with the right foot as it rest on the skateboard to begin moving. The left foot pushes off the ground and hangs in the air momentarily. The trick to riding Fakie is completing the steps in one consistent and continuous flow of movement.

  4. Step 4

    Pivot the back right foot as you place the left foot on the front edge of the board stepping fully into the motion of the skateboard. The arms are slightly bent and out to the side providing balance for the transition of body weight.

  5. Step 5

    Place the back foot firmly on the tail of the skateboard and straighten the body.

  6. Step 6

    Look in the direction from which you just came. This is riding Fakie.

  7. Step 7

    Check you have completed the move correctly by verifying your current position. You should finish the steps in the exact same position you would be in if you had started out riding forward in the first place.
