How to Go Fast on a Snowboard
If you're a fan of speed, snowboarding just might be the right sport for you. Although riders haven't caught up with skiiers, who have hit speeds in excess of 150mph on extreme downhill slopes, they're getting close. Of course, you don't need to go that fast to enjoy the thrills and excitement of snowboarding. You should, however, keep the following safety tips in mind.

1
Make sure you're in an area where there aren't many other people around. The biggest dangers during fast descents are losing control and running into objects, so avoid crowded slopes.
-
2
Pick a slope that's steep enough for speed, but not so steep that you'll lose control if you ride straight down. The key to safely riding fast is staying within your comfort zone.

3
Stay out of deep powder. The deeper the snow, the more it'll grab hold of your snowboard as it slides down the slope, increasing friction and slowing you down.
-
4
Bend your knees and drop your body down a bit. This not only gives you more control of your board but it also decreases your wind resistance.
-
5
Be careful not to lean so far forward or backward that the edge of your board catches the ground.

Tips & Warnings
Wear a helmet if you're going to be riding near wooded areas. A high-speed crash is dangerous, but it becomes life-threatening near trees when you don't wear one.
Be confident. If you head into a fast run already afraid you're going to crash, you probably will.
