Unlike traditional white-faced clowns, august clowns are known for their normal skin tone and exaggerated features. If you want to learn how to put on august clown makeup like the pros, there are a few tips that you need to be aware of. With a little practice, you can have the audience rolling in the aisles with laughter.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lay down the right foundation. Traditionally, august clowns have a normal skin tone. If you're fair-skinned, however, you should create a little bit darker base color to make the white features stand out a little more. You can use regular foundation or just mix some yellow and red grease paint, then apply a thick coating to your face and neck. It's OK if it looks a little unnatural; it will be that much funnier.

  2. Step 2

Decide where you want to add white. White clown makeup is used to accent features like your eyes and mouth. You can choose to paint your entire eye socket, or just create some funny-looking eyebrows.

  3. Step 3

Get in there and use your fingers. When applying the white, you don't have to use any fancy brushes, just dip your finger into the grease paint and start applying it.

  4. Step 4

Keep adding white until you're satisfied with the look. The right and left sides don't have to be perfect. In fact, a little bit of kookiness adds to the clown persona. Once you're satisfied with the white, you can move on to the next part of the makeup.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that your fingernails are clipped and clean, to prevent contamination as you apply the makeup.
  • You may want to spend some time researching what other august clowns do for makeup before you decide on your particular look.
