Belt sanders are a handy tool to have in your garage or workshop. They can be used for a variety of projects and are easy to use. They require the standard level of maintenance and care as other electric tools, including changing the belt when it is worn.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Notice the make, model and style of belt sander you have. There are a variety of sizes and textures. There should be a note about the type of belt the sander takes in the manual, on the box or possibly on the label itself.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the belt you need based on the manufacturer instructions. Unbox and unwrap your belt sander and take off all packaging and other accessories. Do not plug in the sander until the belt is completely installed and the belt sander is put back together.

  3. Step 3

Locate the belt tracking lock knob and loosen it. Open the dust port lid and move the quick release level from the "locked" to the "open" position. Look on the back of the sanding belt to find the arrows that indicate the direction the belt is to be installed.

  4. Step 4

Follow the direction indicated by the arrows and slide the belt on the rollers. Move the quick release level back to the "locked" position. This should also provide tension to the belt. Move on to tracking the belt and closing the belt sander components back up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never allow a child to install the belt on a belt sander. Though the belt sander is not plugged into an energy source, they can injure themselves in the components.
