Properly storing your bench grinder is essential for good maintenance of your tools, especially for items that live in the garage. The following steps will help you with storage of your bench grinder, which is important for extending its life and functionality.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate a high shelf where you can easily store the bench grinder, if it is not bolted to a stationary table or bench grinder stand. This is important to keep it out of the hands of children. Also, locate the outlet where you usually plug in the bench grinder to verify that it's in a safe location.

  2. Step 2

Unplug the cord whenever it isn't in use. This goes for stationary or non-stationary set-ups. This is not only to keep it from draining energy, but also for obvious safety reasons. Keep the cord wrapped up around the grinder when not plugged in or in use.

  3. Step 3

Consider a cover for the grinder, especially if it is a stationary one. These can be purchased at most hardware and home improvement stores. They are affordable and can extend the life of your bench grinder by preventing excessive corrosion.

  4. Step 4

Use a rust protectant on the metal parts of it when it's not in use. Remove the belt from the bench grinder when it's not in use to avoid excessive tension and wear on the belt.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never allow a child to play near or with a bench grinder, especially when it's in use or plugged in. It's a good idea to keep pets away from it too, as they could also be injured by this piece of equipment.
