You're anxious to display the latest addition to your growing art gallery. You've got the spot on the wall all picked out, but you're worried about hanging the picture properly and straight. It doesn't help that there is this large wire on the back of the picture. Don't fret. Hanging a picture that has a wire hanger is easier than recreating a Monet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Hammer
  • Wall hook
  1. Step 1

Use your index finger and put it under the wire on the back of the picture. Raise your finger so the picture is hanging unsupported with the wire extended. If the picture is too large to do this, you can use a bent nail to support the picture instead of your finger.

  2. Step 2

Get your tape measure. Take a measurement from the highest point of the wire (and this is going to be where your finger is under the wire) to the top of the picture. Write the measurement down so you remember it and take the measurement again for accuracy.

  3. Step 3

Place the picture against the wall in the spot you have selected. Use your pencil to make a mark on the wall that is equal to the top of the picture frame.

  4. Step 4

Measure from the mark you just placed down to the measurement you took when you were holding the wire. For example, if the measurement between the highest point on the hanger to the top of the frame was 2 inches, measure 2 inches down from the mark on the wall. Put another mark on the wall after you measure to show where the nail and hanger need to go.

  5. Step 5

Hammer the nail and hanger into the wall. Put the picture onto the hanger and make sure it's straight.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are hanging a large picture, use two wall hooks to support the picture's weight and ensure it's hung safely.
  • Make sure that the wall you are hanging the picture on can support the picture's weight.
