How to Shoot Ground Fireworks

Shooting ground fireworks are a part of most Fourth of July celebrations. Ground fireworks are any firework item that is placed on the ground versus shot from a bottle or held in the hand.

Instructions

1. Place your firework on a smooth, flat surface. If your ground firework is a shooter or has wheels, make sure to place it on a sidewalk or driveway where it has a clear path to move freely.

2. Light the tip of a lighter stick, sometimes called a "puck lighter." Touch the tip of it with a match or light it with a household lighter until the tip of the lighter stick turns red. The lighter stick will be good for about 20 minutes of use.

3. Pull the fuse out if you need to so that it can be easily lit.

4. Touch the tip of the lighter stick to the fuse until you see that the fuse has been ignited. Make sure to hold the lighter stick at arms length to avoid injury.

5. Get away from the firework to a safe distance and watch the show.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure to read all the warning labels on your fireworks before you light the fuses on any firework item.
• Always ask for a few lighter sticks when purchasing your fireworks. These are typically free, but you need to ask for them.
• Make sure to always place your fireworks in an area away from anything flammable or that can be damaged by the fireworks, away from people and away from pets.
• An adult must be present at all times for children 14 and under who are lighting fireworks.
• Check the rules in your city and state about what is legal regarding lighting fireworks in your area.
