Things You'll Need:
- Cheap mountain bike
-
Step 1
Pull your old mountain bike out of the corner of the shed or garage. If you don't have one then go on craigslist and search bikes in your area. It is easy to find one for less than $100.
-
Step 2
Oil the chain and make sure the brakes and shifting work. There are plenty of articles on bicycle maintenance in eHow.
-
Step 3
Don't spend money on slick or inverted tires. Just act like a kid and skid until the back tire is nearly bald. Don't over do it, lots of little skids will wear more evenly than a few small ones. Then put the front tire on the back wheel and vice versa to wear down the front.
-
Step 4
Put the tires back where they are suppose to be. You are ready to ride.
-
Step 5
Think about the routes you drive, are there shoulders for bikes. If not you might need to modify your route to accommodate a bike. Also try avoiding hills if you can go around them.
-
Step 6
Have fun and obey traffic laws.
