You can draw life-like human figures by using a human dummy and a color wheel to add realistic qualities to your drawings. A human dummy helps you draw in three dimensions and a color wheel helps you choose the most human-like skin colors

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Human dummy
  • Sketching supplies
  • Color wheel
  1. Step 1

Choose between a male or female human dummy replica to help you draw realistic people. You can sketch by looking at the dummy and copying the human body with accurate proportions.

  2. Step 2

Put the dummy on a stand and sketch by looking at it. Bend the body into the positions you want to draw. You can have the dummy standing or sitting. Look at the positions of the arms and legs and draw what you see.

  3. Step 3

Bend the human dummy into actions by moving the arms and legs at different angles. You can view the dummy walking, sitting, standing, running, dancing and catching. Just move the limbs to represent the action and draw what you see.

  4. Step 4

Use a light source in front of or behind the dummy to show shading as it would appear on a body. You will know where to add darker shading and where to lighten it.

  5. Step 5

Add color to your drawing once you have sketched the basic human form. Use a color wheel to help you use the right colors. The wheel shows you the basic primary colors as well as the mixes of colors available. Look at a real human body and then pick the color wheel color that most accurately matches the coloring for your human drawing.

  6. Step 6

Pay attention to where the light source comes from and shade in the colors as you see them on the dummy. Paint or color the dark areas first and lighten your coloring as you move toward the light.
