Step 1
Begin by lying on your stomach on the board. You must be used to lying on the board this way as you get used to surfing. The first thing you will do is paddle with your arms as you lay on your surfboard.
-
Step 2
Familiarize yourself with the feeling of a wave going under you. Let a few waves pass and wait for the right moment to move ahead. When you feel confident to get up on your board, you can start to take off.
-
Step 3
Catch the right moment as a wave starts to lift you up. Use your arms to push through the waves and keep applying the front crawl swimming technique. If you miss the wave, then keep trying to catch another one.
-
Step 4
Get ready to catch a wave by pushing harder in the water with your arms and doing the front crawl. Then as the wave lifts you up, bring your hands onto the board by your ribs. Your hands will serve as your launching tool when getting onto a surfboard.
-
Step 5
Push your body up onto the board with your hands and slowly bring your body up into position as the wave carries you. Balance your feet with one foot in front of the other and with approximately two feet in between.
-
Step 6
Keep your arms out to balance you when you first begin to steady yourself and surf a wave. Ride the wave and enjoy your day of surfing.
