Gather your swim gear together before heading to the local pool or your backyard. When you are going to go swimming in a pool it is good to be safe and prepared. Make sure you put on plenty of sunblock, use ear plugs if needed, and take your goggles to keep your eyes from burning from the chlorine. If you're going to a local pool, then wear pool shoes so you do not pick up and any foot diseases.

2
Take floats, rafts, tubes, and other buoyant devices when you are going into the pool. If you are not an amazing swimmer, then you can practice swimming while holding onto one of these devices. When you get tired, these devices can allow you to catch your breath.

Get into the pool slowly and get used to the water temperature. Practice some stretches before doing any laps or other exercises. Lean against the side of the pool in the shallow end and kick your legs for a bit, then stand back from the side and stretch your legs out.

Perform some basic swimming exercises. Do some breast strokes and swim at your own pace. Maybe you want to just float along in the deadman's pose or get around the pool with the doggie paddle. Keep breathing as you move along in the water.

Practice laps back and forth if there is space in the pool. Take it easy when you start out and don't push yourself so hard. Enjoy the strides and stretch your muscles out as you move.
