When decorating your house, you can easily go over budget if you don't plan properly. To decorate a playroom on a restricted budget, you need a little bit of planning and a lot of creative thinking. For a few hundred dollars and a weekend of work, you can turn any room into a kid's wonderland.

From Quick Guide: Build a Playroom
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with the paint. Paint is a cheap way to make over any room. For the playroom, choose a bright color that your kids love. Consider primary colors like blue, red and yellow. If you have all girls, you can go with pink or purple, or try green if you have both boys and girls.

  2. Step 2

Decorate the walls for cheap. You can purchase frames for a few dollars apiece at discount stores and fill them with artwork from some unusual places. Shop around for a bright and colorful calendar, then cut out the pages and frame them. For about $5, you can get 12 pieces of artwork for the walls. Children's books also make great wall art; simply cut out your favorite illustrations and frame them.

  3. Step 3

Showcase your kids' artwork. Buy a large piece of corkboard at your local hardware store and hang it on the wall. Then use some colorful pushpins to show off your children's artwork and paintings. You can rotate them out as often as you need to.

  4. Step 4

Offer plenty of storage options. Toy storage bins are a great way to keep your playroom neat and tidy. They come in a variety of colors and configurations, but you can customize them further by labeling the bins with glitter glue. If you have the budget, built-in storage is also a great idea.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're artistic, try your hand at stenciling or drawing cartoon characters directly onto the playroom wall.
