There are many reasons a person might want a crew cut, aside from joining the military. Some might want a cooler hairstyle for summer, others do it for a fashion statement, and some do it so hair loss from age or chemotherapy doesn't seem so dramatic. Whatever the reason, think about these things in order to get the style perfect for you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider why you're getting your crewcut, especially if you've always had long hair. Figure out how long you think it will take your hair to grow back in case you don't like how it looks.

  2. Step 2

Look at fashion magazines, specifically looking at models with face shapes similar to yours, to see the different crewcut styles. You could have a long cut, a short one, a flat-top or one with designs etched in the sides.

  3. Step 3

Ask around to see if your barber or some friends have a computer program that generates images of you with different hairstyles. Look at these styles and decide which is best for you.

  4. Step 4

Cut it in stages if your hair is really long so it doesn't seem so drastic. Cut your hair every few weeks, chopping off and inch or so at a time until you are really ready to get the actual crewcut.

  5. Step 5

Go to a barber or friend you trust and make sure they have their trimmers set to the correct length so you don't end out with hair shorter than you planned.
