Creating unique wedding invitations is a great way to showcase the bride and groom's personality and style of the wedding. Small personal touches such as pictures, hand-painted wording and designs and theme-based materials and decorations can make memorable wedding invitations that will have people talking and excited for the upcoming wedding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Think about the image you want to portray to your guest. Decide if you want your invitations to be traditional or modern.

  2. Step 2

Incorporate the theme or location of your wedding into the invitation. For a destination, beach wedding include a sandal strap ribbon. For a wedding in Las Vegas, you can include dice and money in the design of the invite. Use the invitation to send a message and set the scene for your dream wedding.

  3. Step 3

Coordinate the color, season and look of the wedding and invitation. You can use color for the tissue insert, lettering, paper and ribbon. Leaves, flowers and the type of invitation paper can also allude to the look of the wedding.

  4. Step 4

Add an engagement picture on the invitation or as a fun insert such as a magnet that your guests can keep. This allows both sides of the bride and groom's family the opportunity to feel included and acquainted with you as a couple. Include a link to a personal website where guests can find engagement photos and wedding information.

  5. Step 5

Use calligraphy to create a unique look. Handwritten, designer invitations are truly one of a kind. Letterpress printing, raised type stamped onto the paper, can add an antique feel to your invitations, while calligraphy can create a softer, more romantic look.

  6. Step 6

Find the perfect wording for your invitation. If you are writing your own vows, you may include a part of them in your wedding invites.

  7. Step 7

Make a statement. Go green with recycled paper to show your views and give your invitations a distinct look and feel. You can also find a do-it-yourself wedding invitations kit to create a unique, personal design.

Tips & Warnings
  • Order extra invitations, envelopes and decorating supplies to allow for mistakes and practice. This is especially helpful for addressing envelopes and adding ribbons, bows and lace.
  • Don't do it yourself unless you have the time, support and skills.
