Bugs are all over the place in software, and they cause all kinds of problems. When something isn't working optimally on your computer, frequently a driver upgrade makes a huge difference. You can check for driver upgrades manually, but there are software packages that do that for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Research driver upgrade software packages. The package you need depends on your operating system, the internal hardware, the external hardware you use with it and your preferences. Some offer automatic updates. Most won't cover all of your hardware.
Step2
Compare prices. Make sure that the packages do everything you need, but that you aren't paying more than you should.
Step3
Decide on a software package, and purchase it.
Step4
Download the software from the company's website, and follow the installation instructions. Some packages will ask you for specific input. Others will install the software without any help on your part.
Step5
Run the software and check for updates regularly. Once a month is often enough for most people, but if you run a lot of external hardware, then run the program more often. Most automatic driver updates run once per week.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's rare to find a package that will support and update everything on your computer. You may need to look for driver updates for internal hardware, printers and routers on the manufacturers' websites.
