The American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP, is an organization that any individual who is 50 years old or older can join regardless of current working status. Joining this organization will not only get you group health insurance rates, you will benefit from discounts on a variety of items, such as: hotel discounts, restaurant discounts and even discounted credit card rates.

  1. Step 1

    Visit the AARP Health website. You will learn valuable information about various healthcare options and you can also compare plans.

  2. Step 2

    Decide on the plan that is right for you. You can choose from several plans, including: Major Medical Health Insurance, Essential Health Insurance or Essential Plus, Long Term Care Insurance, Prescription and Vision Discounts and even Dental Insurance.

  3. Step 3

    Click on a plan after you have decided on your most viable option and input basic information to see if the product or service is distributed in your area. Some plans may have an age limit or only be offered in metro areas.

  4. Step 4

    Complete the application process and wait for a response to your query. If an instant response cannot be given a time-frame for response will be given.

  5. Step 5

    Note the day and time of your application and print it for your records. If you are waiting for a response, and have not received one within three business days, use the contact form on the AARP website or call the number listed under the "Contact Us" tab.
