Being in a band is a good way to express your feelings through music. Starting a hip hop band takes some work, so you should take the decision to start a hip hop band very seriously. When you are the person who starts the band, the other members will look to you for leadership.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the particular style of hip hop that you want your band to perform. You can listen to various hip hop artists to learn about the different styles. Some styles are hard core or gansta rap, southern style or dirty south style, west coast style, east coast style or Memphis style rap.

  2. Step 2

Put a classified ad in the newspaper or put fliers up to advertise auditions for your band. Make sure that you specify the type of hip hop artists you are looking for and the positions that you need filled.

  3. Step 3

Hold auditions and pick the people that you think will fit best with your particular style. You can consider getting some people as fill-ins just in case a regular member of your band isn't able to make a performance.

  4. Step 4

Pick a name for your band. You can do this by yourself or you can get the input of the other members. Make sure that your band's name is something that represents your band.

  5. Step 5

Decide on the music for your band's show. You can include the members of your band in this decision if you want. You can write the music yourself or you can use music and/or lyrics that aren't copyrighted.

  6. Step 6

Practice as much as possible. Make sure that everyone feels very comfortable with the performance before your first public performance.

  7. Step 7

Invite friends and family to watch your band do its first performance. This will help you to make sure that your band is ready for public viewing.
