How to Add a Translator to a Blogger Blog

Allowing visitors to your website to translate your content into different languages can be handy. Providing translation of your web content allows your content to reach users in multiple countries and drive traffic to your site that you might not have had before. Follow these steps to add a translation tool to your website.

Instructions

  1. For Updated Blogger themes

      Open the Layout tab in your Blogger blog. This defaults to the Page Elements selection.

      Open the Google Translate Gadget Blog in another tab or window.

      Click "Add a new Page Element."

      Select the "HTML/Java Script" option.

      Copy the code from the Google Translate Gadget Blog you opened in another window or tab and paste it into the Blogger window. To copy the code, highlight the entire code and hold down the Control key and the C key at the same time. To paste the code, go to "Edit" and select "Paste" or hold down "CTRL" and "V" at the same time.

      Click "Save Changes."

      View your Blogger page. If you see the gadget on your page you've followed the directions correctly. If not, repeat Steps 1 through 6 again.

    For Classic Blogger Themes

      Select the "Template" tab of your theme in Blogger and click "Edit HTML." This opens the Blogger HTML editor.

      Open the Google Translate Gadget Blog in another tab or window.

      Copy the code from the Google Translate Gadget Blog and paste it in your Blogger HTML editor after this tag: div id="mainClm"

      Click "Save Changes".

      View your Blogger page. If you see the gadget on your page you've followed the directions correctly. If not, repeat Steps 1 through 4 again.

Tips & Warnings

  • You have an Updated Blogger Theme if you see the Layout tab. If you see the Template Tab, then you have a Classic Blogger theme and you should follow the instructions for adding the tool to Classic Blogger themes below.

  • To open another window in Internet Explorer 6, go to "File" and select "New" and then "Window." Or for a shortcut click "CTRL" and "N" at the same time.

  • To open another tab in Firefox, go to "File" and then "New Tab" or for the shortcut, select "CTRL" and "T" at the same time.
