Activating a used Cingular cell phone is an easy process. Cingular is one of the few cell phone companies that still use a SIM card in the back of every phone. This little card has everything about your account on it. As long as you have an account and a SIM card, you can activate the phone yourself or take it to an authorized dealer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Current SIM card
  • Cingular cell phone (not activated)
  1. Step 1

Remove the back of your current Cingular cell phone and look for the SIM card. This might be under the battery, or right above the battery.

  2. Step 2

Take the back off the used Cingular cell phone and look for the SIM card slot. If there's a current SIM card, take it out.

  3. Step 3

Slide your SIM card into the slot on the used cell phone. All Cingular cell phones use compatible SIM cards.

  4. Step 4

Turn the used cell phone on, then turn it off and back on.

  5. Step 5

Check the phone by making a call, or calling it from another phone. Your used Cingular cell phone should now be up and running and ready to go.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have any problems activating the cell phone, visit a Cingular store in your area or call the company directly.
  • Don't try this unless you already have an existing account with Cingular. If you need to set up an account, call the company directly or visit one of their stores.
  • SIM cards contain information about your account, but not the information you downloaded onto your phone. Graphics, ring tones and games will not transfer onto a different cell phone.
